Defect: Spaceship Destruction Kit

developed by Three Phase Interactive

[gfycat data_id="HeavyWholeCanine"]defect bluedefect grey[gfycat data_id="LimpFlashyBass"]defect picdefect orange[gfycat data_id="QuerulousThickCat"]

A top down mission based space shooter, where you design your own ship that you are destined to lose.

“Build a ship, complete a mission and wave it goodbye when your crew defect to the other side. Then design a new ship to hunt down those mutinous traitors in an endless cycle of punishment and revenge. Don’t make that new design too good though, because odds are you’ll be fighting it pretty soon.”

Defect is currently in development for Windows and Mac, with a release on Linux, iPad, and Android tablets planned.  You’ll be able to share your creations with your friends across all platforms. Two days left on the Kickstarter, and it’s almost reached its goal. :)

Satellite Reign

developed by 5 Live Studios

satellite reign black satellite reign japsatellite rain treessatellite reign downtown satellite rain sign“A real-time, class-based strategy game, set in an open-world cyberpunk city. You command a group of 4 agents through rain-soaked, neon-lit streets, where the law is the will of mega-corporations. Use your agents to sneak, shoot, steal, and sabotage your way up the corporate ladder, and take control of the most powerful monopoly of all time.”

I really like the music in the teaser trailer.  Satellite Reign is currently on Steam Early Access with pretty good reviews, and seems to get regular updates.

Neverending Nightmares

developed by Infinitap Games

[gfycat data_id="ThirdGrimHypsilophodon"][gfycat data_id="SerpentineCompassionateBluejay"][gfycat data_id="FavorableRaggedBangeltiger"]

“A psychological horror game inspired by the developer’s actual battle with mental illness. In the game, you take on the role of Thomas who awakens from a terrible nightmare only to find that he is still dreaming.

“As he descends deeper through the layers of hellish dreamscapes, he must hide from horrifying apparitions and outrun his inner demons. He must discover which of the horrors he encounters are a manifestation of his own psychological state and figure out what reality will be when he finally wakes up.”

I really like the aesthetic of Neverending Nightmares, and the developer is currently running a Kickstarter (with a demo) for their next game, Devasted Dreams.

“A psychological horror game combining the two things that have scared me [the developer] the most – being an expectant parent and feeling totally vulnerable in a rural area of the Philippines without any electricity or running water.”

[gfycat data_id="ThunderousDamagedCob"]

“It is a narrative focused game telling the story of Angel, a young woman who may or may not be expecting a child as she has to journey through twisted nightmares plagued by horrible monsters from Filipino folklore.”

Static Sky

“A realtime 3rd-person tactical shooter set in a cyberpunk-themed future. In the game, you deploy one or more agents on various missions and use a combination of combat and hacking to progress.”

In development as a premium (not free-to-play) game on the iPad, and built from the ground up with touch controls in mind.  After release, the developers will consider releasing to other platforms if it makes sense.  Release date: “when it’s done”.

Dream Chaser Changes into Whishmere

I originally put these gifs together for a game called Dream Chaser which was an action runner featuring special characters with superpowers.  However, the developers (Crayder Studios) have decided to change the direction of the game, and are now making Wishmere, which is a 4 player local co-op beat ‘em up (with time attack elements).

While that sounds great, I thought these scenes from Dream Chaser were really cool (and I had spent the time trying to Tumblerize them already >.<), so thought I would still share.

Dream Chaser also has/had a nice soundtrack, you can listen to a part of it on Soundcloud here.

You can follow the development of Wishmere on the TIGForums.

“A first person puzzle adventure which puts you into the shoes of a simple structural analyst. Nothing more than a quiet desk jockey assigned to survey some routine structural damage. Quickly though, your mission turns from a mundane trek to a fight for survival.

“Your tools are simple: the camera around your neck and the wits to navigate a virtual labyrinth of debris. How you tell your story is your choice. Will you have the commitment to finish your duty, or will you ignore all else but the preservation of your own life?”

Ruiner

being developed by Reikon Games

[gfycat data_id="ReadyWhimsicalFlyingfox"][gfycat data_id="KnobbyCautiousGosling"]

A top down cyberpunk shooter, currently in early development.

There isn’t too much gameplay to show (you can see a short clip here), but I really wanted to share the changing face animation at some point, and I’m doing some housecleaning in my queue this week.  :)  You can see some concept art below.

“An action adventure game with you taking the role of Max, a teenager with a jetpack. It all starts with your brother’s request for an action packed birthday. Unfortunately he’s in the hospital so it’s up to you to bring him an unforgettable home movie.”

Travel around the world fighting various robotic bosses that you create (randomly) in the Make-A-Boss generator.  Tougher bosses are worth more bounty to defeat, you can then use the money to upgrade your character or purchase fancy hats with specialized powers (one can never have too many hats).

Try and bring home the most over-the-top video for your brother.

Currently in development for PC with a release date on Steam later this year (and possibly Mac & Linux afterwards).

A JRPG in the vein of Final Fantasy Tactic and Tactics Ogre, but instead of controlling individual characters in battle, you control squads of heroes on a much larger battlefield.

Still in early development for PC, and will include the assets and code required for people to create their own campaigns using UDK.
