I’m a big fan of concept art and as you know I also really like gifs, so the combination of the two is right up my alley. The devs made the gifs meaning I got a day off to go to the beach (wee!). Unfortunately there’s not too much information on what the game is yet, but I thought the pretties were enough to share by themselves. You can visit the website here for more info, or follow the studio on Twitter to keep updated on the progress and to listen out for the official announcement.
I have a bit of a soft spot for concept art, so thought I’d do another separate post for one of the games featured. This is from Nothing Ever Remains Obscure, which is a story driven puzzle game that has beautiful in game art as well.
Really love the additional art for Duelyst, there was way too much to put in one post so thought I’d add an extra one. Unfortunately because I wasted so much time learned so much by fiddling with the Dawn of War gif I don’t have enough time to finish the full Duelyst post, that’ll be up tomorrow!
Bonus looping gif below that I stole from their website. =)
I really liked the art and the descriptions from the game, so I thought I would put them in a separate post. You can see That Which Sleeps here, which is a strategy game about weakening the world so that you may return.
Each faction plays a bit differently, and these aren’t all of them, just a selection of what I thought looked best. Sisyphus is the only human faction (top image).
Let’s see what else you can be.
Limos, Shadow of Creation.
“An injustice forgotten, a hate without meaning. Pervert the living, rend your children, and bring this nightmare to an end.”
Belial, the Shadow Prince.
“Schemes drip down to a shadowed throne, lies echo in its black chambers. A soothing relief for the dead thing that lays there, a broken lord of the wretched.”
Karth, the Form of Fury.
“They wait, persecuted, driven into dark forests and deep caves. They wait, eager, for their blood burns as omens fall. They wait, as the drums of war begin to beat. Their God comes again.”
Inatha, The Wings of Winter.
“Fear the mountains for the words that they speak, fear the snows for the horrors they keep, fear in ice the ancient’s deceit.”
Run an academy for artists during the Italian Renaissance. You take commissions for various types of art that must be completed in a certain time frame. Try to manage your artists and level up their skills in order to keep expanding your guild.
Currently, in the alpha version, you welcome an unknown young painter called Leanordo da Vinci into your guild.
Even the Ocean by Sean Hogan & Jonathan Kittaka – a 2d adventure platformer where the enemies don’t necessarily kill you, but change your energy level which affects the physics of the gameplay. Your run speed and jump height are inversely proportional, and increasing one decreases the other.
Elsinore by Golden Glitch – a tragic time travelling adventure game set in Shakespeare’s Hamlet.
“To be, or not to be: that is the question: Whether ‘tis nobler in the mind to suffer The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune, Or to take arms against a sea of troubles, And by opposing end them? To die: to sleep; No more; and by a sleep to say we end The heart-ache and the thousand natural shocks That flesh is heir to, ’tis a consummation Devoutly to be wish’d. To die, to sleep; To sleep: perchance to dream: ay, there’s the rub;
For in that sleep of death what dreams may come When we have shuffled off this mortal coil, Must give us pause: there’s the respect That makes calamity of so long life; For who would bear the whips and scorns of time, The oppressor’s wrong, the proud man’s contumely, The pangs of despised love, the law’s delay, The insolence of office and the spurns That patient merit of the unworthy takes, When he himself might his quietus make With a bare bodkin? who would fardels bear, To grunt and sweat under a weary life, But that the dread of something after death, The undiscover’d country from whose bourn No traveller returns, puzzles the will And makes us rather bear those ills we have Than fly to others that we know not of?
Thus conscience does make cowards of us all; And thus the native hue of resolution Is sicklied o’er with the pale cast of thought, And enterprises of great pith and moment With this regard their currents turn awry, And lose the name of action.–Soft you now! The fair Ophelia! Nymph, in thy orisons Be all my sins remember’d!”
Crossing the Line by Zomboko Entertainment – an absolutely stunning first person thriller where you must investigate the unsolved case of the death of your wife. Sounds a bit cliche on the surface, though you are able to interact with the shadow world (wraiths, souls etc.), which could add a twist to the story.
GIF’s really struggle to capture the game (and colours) in motion, the visuals in the trailer are tip top, though let’s hope the voice acting is placeholder.
It’s actually been longer than a month, but sssshhh! I wanted to introduce something a little new going forward, so I got in contact with jdpalmerart (who does concept art/sketches) to see if I could commission some art for one of the games on my blog.
I decided to do Chester, since I’m addicted to gifs and I liked the whimsical nature of it. It was a bit hard to see Chester in the gifs, so we did a little digging and found an older image.
J.D. used that along with the in game character portrait to do awesome things, see below! I’d like to try to do more “fan art" of the games on my blog, but I’m not sure at what frequency (monthly/weekly etc.). I guess it would depend on how interested people are in seeing more. What do you think?
