The Unfinished Swan

developed by Giant Sparrow

I’ve been meaning to make these for a while, of my play through a couple of months ago.  I thought the game was pretty decent (I think it got over-hyped for me unfortunately, which skewed my expectations), but I really liked the sort of minimalistic art style and thought some of the scenes made for good moving pictures.

For those who don’t know, The Unfinished Swan is a light exploration/puzzle game where you move around in an unfinished world shooting paint to reveal objects and solve puzzles.  You can see more on the Playstation page or check the trailer below.

Tsioque

torque4torque1

“An animated adventure game inspired by classic 80s and 90s point and click titles. Craftily mixing influences of games like Day of the Tentacle, Dragon’s Lair or Humongous Games’ Pajama Sam, it offers its own, original narrative experience, which can be described as both dark and adorable.

“We take the role of a young princess Tsioque, imprisoned in a castle ruled by the Evil Wizard. At first glance, with her blond hair and big blue eyes, she may seem like your typical princess, but she’s anything but typical. She doesn’t wait for Prince Charming to rescue her – she rescues herself, using her wits, stubbornness, and an unusual talent for bringing unintended chaos and destruction wherever she goes.”

Tikotep Adventure

developed by alwex

A pixel art adventure-platformer in development for PC.  You can see more of the game

in this post by PixelArtus, or in the dev log on the TIGForums.

I’ve wanted to make some loops/cinemagraphs of the water for a while, but I’ve been having trouble doing it.  I had to speed up the gifs due to some framerate problems, so the transition is a bit harsh, and the flow isn’t as nice.  Sorry about that. :(

If you’re interested in how the water works, you can check out this post by the developer which goes through the method/code.

You can also take a look at the method used to make the water in Kingdom (gif below), if you haven’t seen the post I made about it before.

“Mizuka, a little Japanese girl, lives on a small remote island, in the Okinawa archipelago. One night, she has a strange dream. When she wakes up, a terrible danger is threatening the island. Mizuka must explore the surroundings and enter a mysterious spirit world in order to save her village.”

Still in early development.  There’s a lot of really great art on the developer’s Tumblr which you can follow here (atelier-sento).

Hollow Knight

developed by Team Cherry

A hand animated action adventure game being developed for PC, Mac, Linux, and Wii U (and possible more).  I’m so in love with the art, and I’m definitely a little biased with this post as I backed the game on Kickstarter last year.

“As the enigmatic Hollow Knight, players will journey through the depths of Hallownest, a vast and ancient kingdom buried deep underground. Though long fallen to ruin after a dimly-remembered catastrophe, explorers and thieves still brave its dark roads, its caverns and towers, searching for riches and wonders.

“Lately though, something has changed. Villagers and explorers venturing into the caverns have stopped returning. The caverns throb and tremble with a savage energy. A sweet and sickly poison is drifting through the hollows, sending creatures mad with rage and robbing explorers of their memories.”

You Shouldn’t Be Here…

The trailer for Edge of Nowhere came out today, thought this scene made for a cool cinemagraph (no pun intended :p).

It’s a third person adventure being made by Insomniac (Sunset Overdrive, Ratchet and Clank) for the Oculus Rift, though the trailer looks a bit horror-ish.  You can see the trailer here.

Just a heads up, I’ll probably make a few posts from E3 trailers/gameplay if anything cool shows up, like The Last Guardian (IT COULD HAPPEN), or to make gifs like this.  I usually only post non indie games like once a month (Bloodborne, Battlefront), but I’ll make an exception next week since there might be a lot of pretties that I want to make gifs of.

So if you’re not into that kind of thing bear with me for a few days.  :)  There will still be indie games as usual.

Of course I might have to work the entire time, so don’t expect anything.
