The Girl of Glass

“Join Kristal as she sets out on her journey to better understand herself and the world around her in a point and click adventure game, featuring turn-based combat elements and hand-painted environments.

“The Girl of Glass is set in a fictional mid-20th-century European country ruled by a tyrant eagle.  You play as Kristal, the girl of glass, who is struggling with growing up, letting go of the past, and finding a future to believe in.  On your journey of discovery, you will visit numerous places and meet a wonderful cast of characters to interact with – all in very detailed, hand-painted graphics.”

Townscaper

“Build quaint island towns with curvy streets.  Build small hamlets, soaring cathedrals, canal networks, or sky cities on stilts.  Block by block.  No goal.  No real gameplay.  Just plenty of building and plenty of beauty.  That’s it.

“Townscaper is an experimental passion project.  More of a toy than a game.  Pick colors from the palette, plop down colored blocks of house on the irregular grid, and watch Townscaper’s underlying algorithm automatically turn those blocks into cute little houses, arches, stairways, bridges and lush backyards, depending on their configuration.”

I received a Steam key from the developer and although purely creative things aren’t my jam it is really easy to build something that looks beautiful.  With the right imagination you can definitely put together quite a spectacular town, or you can be like me and see just how high buildings go. 🙈

I would love this to be fully fleshed out and rolled into something with more traditional gameplay, which miiiight be a possibility in the future? :)

Frogsong

“A heartfelt adventure game where it’s okay to be small.  Explore a beautiful, atmospheric land and fight monsters on your journey to find your place in the world.

“Chorus is a little frog with huge dreams of protecting the world.  Being a tree frog, however, society expects them to lead a life of religious studies, instead of training to be a warrior.  Their small size certainly doesn’t help anyone take them seriously, either. Seeking a better life, Chorus moves to Boreala, a village where members of the Defense Guild train under the wisdom of an old veteran.  They quickly learn things aren’t going to be as easy as they hoped…”

Scrap Story

A lovely looking paper RPG with a mix of paper, crayon, and plaster art depending on which area you are in.  There are villagers and critters to talk to, some of whom may join you in battle (maybe, if they feel like it), while others want to be more involved and can become your companion, following you on your journey.

It’s currently in development for PC but the developer is also hoping to bring the game to PS4 and Switch at some point with an initial release in 2021.  In the meantime there is a demo you can play, and you can follow them on Twitter to keep up-to-date on the progress.

TASOMACHI | 黄昏ニ眠ル街

A relaxing adventure set in a city seemingly deserted by humans, leaving only talking cats.  Explore the beautiful city, interact with the new residents, and collect energy for your airship so that you can fly again.

At the moment there doesn’t appear to be an English translation coming to Steam although that is a possibility in the future, but regardless it looks like a lovely experience.
