A gorgeous rogue-like space shooter.   Everspace promises to have a much richer story than regular rogue-likes, while having more action oriented gameplay than regular space sims.  After you die you are able to use the resources you’ve gained to upgrade your starting ship, so hopefully things will go more smoothly the next time.

Currently in development for PC, Mac, and Linux.  It recently completed a successful Kickstarter, raising €420,252.

The Unfinished Swan

developed by Giant Sparrow

I’ve been meaning to make these for a while, of my play through a couple of months ago.  I thought the game was pretty decent (I think it got over-hyped for me unfortunately, which skewed my expectations), but I really liked the sort of minimalistic art style and thought some of the scenes made for good moving pictures.

For those who don’t know, The Unfinished Swan is a light exploration/puzzle game where you move around in an unfinished world shooting paint to reveal objects and solve puzzles.  You can see more on the Playstation page or check the trailer below.

Mr. Yeti’s Fast Food [Ludum Dare 33]

developed by Big Green Pillow

The dark side of SkiFree.

“Mr. Yeti is usually a nice guy, napping in the peace and quiet of Yeti Mountains. But sometimes he can get dangerously hungry, and running around looking for food only makes him hungrier. Which means bad luck for anybody who ends up crossing his way in the forests.

Although he doesn’t hold a grudge against the puny humans who disturb his silence with their “skiing”, Mr. Yeti does like the way all those winter clothes keep their juicy insides warm. Mr. Yeti calls them Burritos on Sticks.”

“A fast paced sci-fi adventure wrapped up in beautiful visuals, addictive gameplay and an inspiring soundtrack.

“Easy to learn, hard to master, the game is accessible to new players but deep enough to allow skill development and advanced gameplay tactics. The open levels allow players to tackle the game any way they like and the game’s fast pace and constantly moving and rearranging orbital systems give the level great replay ability.

“The game takes place in space themed environments ranging from nebulas to complex orbital systems. Within the orbital systems (or levels) players must use the orbital controls to lock onto objects, orbit them to gather speed, destroy them and collect the energy life forms they release.”

A pixel art horror game that is launching on Steam today for $2.99 on PC.  It’s quite a short experience (at around 2 hours) and was made in RPG maker, though I think it has a really great art style.

“You find yourself in a roadside clearing. A little girl named Cat is crying nearby. She needs you to take her home, where you’ll encounter bizarre monsters, ethereal places, and heart-wrenching secrets about Cat and her family.”
